Student Name: KC Clark School: Oswego East High School Grade: 9 Class: Ms. Schmidt Pottery 1 Title: "The Core Issue" UN Sustainable Development Goal: World Hunger Brief Artist statement: The concept behind my artwork is that hunger is under the spotlight because it is such an important issue many face. This idea is important to me because while there are many world issues, the nourishment of humans is one of the most essential pieces of survival and it hurts me that so many people are forced to live this way. Hunger is the cause of 45% of all children’s deaths. I want my audience to put themself in the shoes of these children and their circumstances. The bright apple core on my tile represents the “spotlight” that is on the goal of food and nourishment for all. Also, the apple bites on the sides create two human side profiles that show that these people really want food. The background is dark to show contrast and also represents those who are hungry as they are in a “dark place.”
