Student Name: Avery McKeown-Robbie School: Oswego East Grade: 10 Class: Pottery 1 UN Sustainable Development Goal: Life on Land Brief Artist Statement: The idea of my artwork was to show the state in which our world is in. Because of factors such as climate change, deforestation, drought, fires, and loss of biodiversity, our world is struggling. I am also planning on studying biology and environmental science in college, so this issue is something that i feel strongly about and hope to help fix in the future. I want the audience to reflect on what they personally and society as a whole has done to get to the point we are at. From those realizations, I want them to start making small simple changes that have a lasting impact. My artwork is several pieces of a broken pot put back together to symbolize our broken world and to highlight each piece or idea of my artwork. On most of the reality or negative pieces, the sky is gray to show pollution and the state of which our atmosphere is in. These pieces include dead plants to show lack of biodiversity, fire to show the increase in forest fires, sky of pollution to symbolize climate change and the effect of greenhouse gasses and fossil fuel use, and a mountain with a small steam to once again show lack of biodiversity and also drought. Also in this piece, I have pieces that show a positive light of the earth to show where the heart one was and to further emphasize what we have done. In these pieces all of the skies are blue and also have brighter colors. These types of pieces include a fully healthy forest, water, grass, and flowers.
