Student Name: Abbie Chen School: Oswego East High School Grade: 11 Class: Ms. Schmidt Pottery 1 UN Sustainable Development Goal: Deforestation Brief Artist statement: The main idea behind this artwork is Deforestation. This idea is important because the decaying environment is the largest and most important problem. It often gets overlooked by other events going on, but without a health stable environment, there would be no life. The audience should be more aware and concerned for the situation the forests are in, but also give hope that there are ways that we can fix or make this situation better. The overall shape of my artwork represents a tree that has been chopped down. It is slightly lopsided since it is very challenging to chop a tree down perfectly straight. On the outside there are 3 different settings. A forest, a forest that has been chopped down, and a forest with sapling. The color scheme changes in order to show the change in health of the ecosystem. Dark blue, for a health happy ecosystem, a greenish color for an ecosystem that has died due to deforestation, and a light blue for a new healthy rebirth of the ecosystem.
